From the University of Klagenfurt in Austria and semiconductor manufacturers Infineon in Germany and Amkor in Portugal through ion experts Ion Beam Services in France and the Polytechnic University of Milan in Italy: The 37 partners in the European project ‘Power Semiconductor and Electronics Manufacturing 4.0’, or SemI40 for short, which conducted intensive research into the further development of Industry 4.0 applications from 2016 through 2019, come from five countries. The focus of the project was on intelligent production and cyber-physical production systems, advanced by means of enhanced data processing and communication methods.

One of the key outcomes of the project is an innovative concept for the secure remote control of production equipment, which also integrates older systems for which no modern IT features have so far been available. Deep learning methods were used in quality control to facilitate automated and autonomous error detection; innovative workplaces and production environments for Industry 4.0 were also researched. The results have now been published: ‘A SemI40 Project Prospective’ is the name of the project partners’ joint book, which is available for free here .
